Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Carol Concert Spotlights Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The large audience will enjoy a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists backed by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
